The line of the Neolithic continuous ditch had been followed on its Eastern side in the seasons in 1971-75. In 1977 the hunt was again resumed on the Southern side, where this entrance was found. The ditch was uncovered in 1977 but these photos are from 1978 when the full extent of the bank and entrance gateway were examined. Under the bank was the earlier causewayed ditch inner ring. These photos are taken from the same spot to show the entrance passageway (left) and the defensive bank, especially in cutting O5 (right). Considering these walls are around 4500 years old, they survived remarkably well.
