Following the discovery of the Sacred Circle in 1983, work continued on that area, and was extended to look at the steep slope to the North. It was hoped to pick up the line of the Neolithic defences. Sure enough, the long transect in CH84 (far left) found the ditch lines down the hill. Furthermore, there looked like an entrance passage way coming up the hill in W93 (below left). We extended and dug some more in 1985 and revealed the full Northern entrance to the Neolithic continuous ditch enclosure (left, looking up the entrance passage way), defended by a natural knoll with ramparts added.
