Two views looking SW of the CH89 cutting on the Long Mound early (left) and late (above) in the season. This concentrated on finishing the parts of squares T2 and T3 started in the previous two seasons, and extended to take in the rest of T2. This uncovered vestiges of the small exploratory cutting DI in 1975, designed to see if the Long Mound was worth a look. In the photo above, the small ‘Cairnlets’ of the earlier monument under the Long Mound can bee seen appearing to the right of the T2 label. Underneath everything, there are two Neolithic houses buried in these cuttings, one each in T2 and T3.
