In 1977 it was decided to explore the nature of the Iron Age defences on the point of the hill, furthest from the entrance. Sure enough some traces were found, and the ditch can be clearly seen in the W of this cutting. Postholes and a bank of sorts were also found, although on a much smaller scale than in the East.
